Deriving the Pomeron from a Euclidean-minkowskian Duality

چکیده
Differently from the parton–parton scattering amplitudes, which are known to be affected by infrared (IR) divergences, the elastic scattering amplitude of two colourless states in gauge theories, e.g., two qq̄ meson states, is expected to be an IR–finite physical quantity. It was shown in Refs. 1,2,3 that the high–energy meson–meson elastic scattering amplitude can be approximately reconstructed by first evaluating, in the eikonal approximation, the elastic scattering amplitude of two qq̄ pairs (usually called “dipoles”), of given transverse sizes ~ R1⊥ and ~ R2⊥ respectively, and then averaging this amplitude over all possible values of ~ R1⊥ and ~ R2⊥ with two proper squared wave functions |ψ1(~ R1⊥)| and |ψ2(~ R2⊥)|, describing the two interacting mesons. The high–energy elastic scattering amplitude of two dipoles is governed by the (properly normalized) correlation function of two Wilson loops W1 and W2, which follow the classical straight lines for quark (antiquark) trajectories:

High–energy scattering and Euclidean–Minkowskian duality
We shall discuss how some relevant analyticity and crossing-symmetry properties of the “eikonal scattering amplitudes” of two Wilson loops in QCD, when going from Euclidean to Minkowskian theory, can be related to the still unsolved problem of the asymptotic s–dependence of the hadron–hadron total cross–sections. In particular, we critically discuss the question if (and how) a pomeron–like beha...
متن کاملCan the Pomeron Be Derived from a Euclidean–minkowskian Duality?
After a brief review, in the first part, of some relevant analyticity and crossing–symmetry properties of the correlation functions of two Wilson loops in QCD, when going from Euclidean to Minkowskian theory, in the second part we shall see how these properties can be related to the still unsolved problem of the asymptotic s–dependence of the hadron– hadron total cross sections. In particular, ...
متن کاملActions for Qcd-like Strings
We introduce a random lattice corresponding to ordinary Feynman diagrams, with 1/p propagators instead of the Gaussians used in the usual strings. The continuum limit defines a new type of string action with two worldsheet metrics, one Minkowskian and one Euclidean. The propagators correspond to curved lightlike paths with respect to the Minkowskian worldsheet metric. Spacetime dimensionality o...
متن کاملEuclidean–Minkowskian Duality of Wilson–Loop Correlation Functions
We discuss the analyticity properties of the Wilson–loop correlation functions relevant to the problem of soft high–energy scattering, directly at the level of the functional integral, in a genuinely nonperturbative way.
متن کاملA Nonperturbative Foundation of the Euclidean–minkowskian Duality of Wilson–loop Correlation Functions
In this letter we discuss the analyticity properties of the Wilson– loop correlation functions relevant to the problem of soft high–energy scattering, directly at the level of the functional integral, in a genuinely nonperturbative way. The strategy is to start from the Euclidean theory and to push the dependence on the relevant variables θ (the relative angle between the loops) and T (the half...
